Brambles (workshop for all ages)

1 July 2023

Time: 10am - 3pm

Workshop

Join us for a free public event with artist and initiator Julie Upmeyer on a field trip to Plas Bodfa, a 100-year-old manor house on Anglesey.

This workshop is an invitation to involve yourself in the continuum of a place – a place of creativity and inspiration throughout its long history. We will experience the ongoing projects at Plas Bodfa, exploring creativity through the actions of brambles, a plant that has evolved to spread rapidly, taking advantage of open ground. Brambles are persistent, and generous, almost impossible to suppress.

Meet at Mostyn; a bus will take everyone to Plas Bodfa. We advise you to bring a packed lunch with you. All children must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Please note there may be a photographer present at this event, you may give or refuse consent to be photographed on the day.

This event is a part of the Isdyfiant project generously funded by Natural Resources Wales.

Artist profiles and statements

Julie Upmeyer

Julie Upmeyer is an artist and initiator who creates sculptures and objects, performances and installations. She creates long-term investigative projects that combine her many passions: layers and labour – – – dimensions and dedication to craft – – – systems, substances, and shiny things. Her work is often the direct result of her manipulation of a chosen material, other times she enjoys the challenge of responding to a specific space, place, or theme.
