Mostyn is looking for up to four people, with a range of lived experiences and perspectives, to join Mostyn’s board of trustees, also known as our Gallery Council.
We are looking for trustees who can share our Vision and Values.
Board members will ensure Mostyn remains a resilient, diverse and sustainable organisation that contributes towards the cultural, social, environmental and economic fabric of Wales.
Your Role and Responsibilities
As a member of our Gallery Council, you will share responsibility for governance of Mostyn, providing accountability by reviewing and approving our policies and financial management.
As a ‘critical friend’, you will support Mostyn’s engaged process of reviewing, iterating and adapting to best serve our diverse audiences, and generate new opportunities for artists and makers in Wales and beyond.
We are looking to add a range of experience to the Board. While an art background is not necessary, it will be valuable if you have an appreciation of the social, cultural, educational and economic benefits of engaging with art. You may have knowledge of the responsibilities of operating as a charity, the challenges that come from being publicly funded, the arts funding landscape, and/or be running a commercial operation that faces related challenges.. You might have experience of being on a board elsewhere, or this could be your first experience of being a trustee.
You will be enthusiastic, open and generous in sharing your ideas and experience, to keep Mostyn moving forwards. Ideally, trustees will advocate for Mostyn – supporting us to spread the word about the work we do, and connecting us with relevant people and organisations in order to help us grow.
If you apply, and you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited for an induction tour of Mostyn, where you can meet the team and have a chance to see how we currently work. There are three Gallery council meetings per year (March, July and November), and you will be able to join these meetings online.
Board members will serve a term of one year initially, with the possibility to extend this to three years by mutual agreement. You should be able to commit to attending at least one meeting per year in person. Mostyn will cover your travel expenses.
How To Apply
Joining Mostyn’s board is an exciting opportunity for professional development and a chance to hone your skills in a new setting. If you’re new to being a trustee we can provide training and support.
We are especially keen to receive applications from groups currently underrepresented in the arts and governing boards, including members of the Global Majority, d/Deaf and disabled applicants, individuals from lower-socio-economic backgrounds, Welsh speakers, those from LGBTQIA+ communities, and people under 35. We are also interested in hearing from those with particular knowledge in relation to HR, education and fundraising.
If you are interested in becoming a Mostyn trustee, please register your interest by sending us your CV and a letter (max 1000 words), or audio clip (max 3 minutes) or video (max 3 minutes) explaining why you’d like to become a trustee. If submitting an audio or video file, please send us these as a link or via We Transfer.
Applications should be sent by 27/06/25 to our Chair, Jeremy Salisbury, [email protected], but if you have any general queries about Mostyn and trusteeship, please email Karolina Bayley Hughes at [email protected] or you can call her on 01492 879201.
