OPEN CALL: Research and Development Opportunity

Working with Mostyn, CARN and Borderland Poetics in November/ December 2026

Borderland Poetics: Rewilding Tongues announces an open call for early career curators, producers or facilitators to work with CARN and Mostyn. This is an opportunity for emerging cultural professionals based in Estonia, Iceland or Finland to gain first-hand international work experience, learn about preparing and producing exhibitions and public programmes. This is a paid opportunity that promotes cooperation between Wales and the Nordic-Baltic region.

The applicant must be willing to work over a period of 3 weeks in North Wales between Llandudno and Caernarfon, between November and December 2026. The assistant will work together with the teams of CARN and Mostyn to assist with and learn about event production, exhibition installation, and management. There will be opportunities to share your research interests with Mostyn and CARN’s team of curators and directors. Support will be provided to make introductions to artists in the area and facilitate studio visits and meet with local organisations.

Working patterns and start dates are flexible to suit the needs of the candidates, but candidates should be aware of the Borderland Poetics research trip from 9th to 13th November, during which time curators, artists and directors from across the Borderland Poetics network will be visiting North Wales.

About the host institutions

CARN

Mostyn

Mostyn is a public art gallery in Llandudno, North Wales, with a programme of contemporary art exhibitions on a par with those in major global art centres. Mostyn produces a range of creative activities for visitors to enjoy at Mostyn or at home that are inspired by the exhibition programme. Mostyn also works with schools, colleges, universities, youth, community and special needs groups.

About the programme

The internship programme is part of the project Borderland Poetics: Rewilding Tongues, a 3-year-long cooperation project between the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art (Tallinn, Estonia), Aine Art Museum (Tornio, Finland), Icelandic Art Center (Reykjavik, Iceland), Mostyn (Llandudno, Wales) and CARN (Caernarfon, Wales). The aim of the project is to connect cultural professionals based in Wales and in the Baltic-Nordic region and create paid internship opportunities for emerging cultural professionals. Previous internships have taken place in collaboration with the Tallinn Print Triennial in Estonia and the Sequences Art Festival in Iceland.

For the Wales-based internship, Mostyn has invited CARN to join as a host partner, extending the collaboration across North Wales and strengthening its connection to the region’s wider cultural ecology.

The title of the project is a reference to an exhibition, “Border Poetics”, curated by the Estonian curator Eha Komissarov in 2018.

The project is supported by the Nordic Culture Point.
