Open Call for Emerging Artists in Wales

Mostyn, with generous support of Colwinston Charitable Trust, will support four new commissions by emerging artists in Wales that will form part of Mostyn’s 2025 summer show, programmed in collaboration with artist Jeremy Deller.

Visual artists and makers, working either solo or in collaboration, are invited to submit a proposal that responds to themes related to commemoration, celebration, demonstration and transformation. The proposal could be of specific interest to your practice or of relevance to your community,  landscape or cultural heritage. We encourage proposals that encompass a range of disciplines including, but not limited to, sound, moving image, photography, print, text, sculpture, textile, performance etc.

The four commissions will be selected by a jury and exhibited at Mostyn between June and October 2025, with the gallery launch in June running alongside the UK wide commission, in partnership with the National Gallery, London, The Triumph of Art

Partners:

The Colwinston Charitable Trust was established in 1995 and distributes grants to UK Registered Charities delivering high quality work in the Live Performing Arts and the Visual Arts. The funding is primarily directed towards the support of activity that benefits Wales.

Mostyn is a free, public gallery in Llandudno, Wales, that presents a programme of outstanding international contemporary art. Our public engagement programme includes talks, tours and workshops, and we support over 400 artists through our renowned shop.

Mostyn is an Arts Portfolio Wales organisation, receiving financial support from the Arts Council of Wales. We are part of Plus TATE, and one of the partnership of eleven CELF venues across Wales, enabling people to access and enjoy artworks from the Welsh national collection of contemporary art. We are the Welsh partner for the National Gallery, London’s, bicentenary commission The Triumph of Art, with Jeremy Deller.

Jeremy Deller (b. 1966, London) studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute and at Sussex University. He began making artworks in the early 1990s, often showing them outside conventional galleries. With projects including ‘The Battle of Orgreave’ (2001) and ‘We’re here because we’re here’ (2016), Deller is known for works that involve people and that explore the themes of performance art and popular culture.  ’The Triumph of Art’ is a UK wide commission by the National Gallery London, initiated by Jeremy Deller  marking the role art plays in our public collections, cultural spaces and museums. Deller has drawn inspiration from the Renaissance painter Titian’s wild processions of the Roman gods, as in his famous Bacchus and Ariadne (1520‒23), as well as folklore, dances, plays, rave culture and popular arts.
